How to cast and unmold a 3D piece

I want to cast both sides of a piece and then make the whole piece in resin. I am asuming I can cover the whole piece in putty all the way around, wait for it to set... and then what?

I am thinking I can cut the putty mold open on one side, and then hold it closed probably with tape or tie it with something so it holds the resin?

Has anyone tried making a one piece mold or a 3D object and then closed it to fill it with resin?

Did it work?

Thanks!!!

Gio,

Please call and it would be easier for you to ask questions while I explain the process.

However, you can make a two piece mold, by using rubber to rubber mold release so the silicone does not bond together. This will give you a much nicer parting line and minimal flash. Your way may work, but this way would be easier.

My Best,
